Dear Gerda,
I just got your last letter. It must have been difficult to choose between staying with your friends and going to with Abeks family. I think you made the right choice to stay with your friends. As I understand it, you don't really love him as he loves you. If you were to stay with him you would be unhappy with life, and would regret making that decision. You would have to marry him, and that would be a life changing decision you would have to live with every day.
The place you are at now is not to bad I take it. It’s much better than a death camp or starving as the nameless girl. Mrs. Berger is a great leader who has your best interests in mind. I hope your next few weeks there aren’t as bad as the first ones were. Now that you have to ability to weave really well and handle four machines it should go better. I’m pretty sure they wont give you five machines to handle that would be too much. As you guys gain trust with the SS workers they will treat you better and will give you all more privileges. Just made sure to work hard and be respectful.
I think that what you should do is stay away from anything that could be irrational. I think this war is going to be over soon. Now that Japan involved America by attacking them America is going win the war. I do not believe that Germany will take over the world. If you can stand your ground then the nightmare will soon end.
Your friend,
Dieter
